AFTER DEATH: FAIRYTALES

“Why aren’t you married?” She asked after a brief silence and he smiled. That smile she had gotten so used to and always looked forward to seeing. But it had been almost a month since they last saw each other. Even though he called everyday wanting to know about the welfare of her and her son.
Phillip had gone from another pastor she despised to a very good friend. He had shown that it was possible for people of different beliefs and ideologies to be good friends. Every time he called, he always reminded her that he was praying for her. She didn’t believe in the God he prayed to, but he did and it made her happy that he sincerely cared about her to always pray.
“Getting married is not of utmost importance in my life right now”, he replied. “I have a mission right now that marriage will only distract me from. But when the time comes, I will”.
She nodded as they walked through the zoo. Revelations ministries had organized a playdate for all the kids in the church and Phillip had convinced her to bring Daniel. The playdate took place at Ogba Zoo, some six kilometers away from Benin. She had never taken Daniel to the zoo and she could see his excitement as he ran around with the other church kids marveling at the animals around. She had refused to bring him at first even though Phillip kept on insisting as she didn’t want him mixing up with the church kids. But the joy on his face at that moment made her happy she changed her mind.
“Do you ever think of re-marrying?” Phillip wondered. “I mean, you are still young and attractive…”
“You think I am attractive pastor Phillip?” She teased and he chuckled. “You know how my husband died right?” She didn’t wait for him to answer the first question.
“I heard the news”, Phillip replied. “Ehimen Ehiaghe, the news was everywhere”.
“Always wondered how the gun men got in the house”, she recalled as her face got sad. “But when my maid got missing the very next day before the police arrived, I had a clue. Till today, my mother in-law hasn’t given up hope she will find that maid and bring her son’s killers to book.” She paused for effect. “It would have just been a simple robbery but my son woke up. He was just a year and eight months. He cried so loud they tried to shut him up and all they could do was throw my baby on the floor like he was some kind of football”.
“You don’t have to go over it again”, Phillip advised.
“My husband got mad”, she ignored his advice. “That was his son they threw on the floor. They give him that nasty scar he has on his forehead. Ehimen got up and fought one of them and another shot him right at the back of his head.” She forced a smile. “I have had a horrible life Phillip”. She confessed.
“But it is nothing to be compared with what God has planned for you”, he cut in. “You have a beautiful boy, you have a great carrier and a great life ahead of you.”
She nodded.
“I thought Dr Ehiagie had a daughter…”
“Itohan”, she smiled. “We aren’t really in good terms at the moment”.
“Why?”
“What do you think? I am running her mother’s business. She’s not happy with it. And we used to be very good friends”, she recalled. “There was a time her mother didn’t like me because I wasn’t a Christian and Itohan will defend me over and over again. She used to teach me some of her delicacies because that girl is a god in the kitchen. I particularly love her potato porridge, there is something she does with garlic and it’s just amazing”.
“So if you guys had such a great relationship, what went wrong?” Phillip inquired.
“She got mad I changed my surname back to Agbaje immediately her brother died”, she replied. “Plus I rose so fast in the family business she felt left out. Being so successful only exposed her flaws in her mother’s eyes and now I run Clay World and her mother doesn’t regard her”. Lisa paused and looked towards the direction of the kids to be sure her son was still there. “I don’t hate her even though she despises me. I pity her because her life is really going to the dirt. She now hates me because I exposed her uncle for fraud.”
“You should draw closer”, Phillip advised.
“I have tried”, Lisa confessed,
“Try harder”, he insisted. “She’s still the true born daughter of Dr Ehiaghe and she deserves better than she’s getting”.
They stood for a while as they watched the kids play around. The church had mandated every executive to be present, whether they had kids or not and so Phillip had to be there, and so was Osas who had started to stare at her again. Lisa shivered at the sight of the Secretary’s piercing eyes. She wasn’t the only one who noticed Osas was staring; Phillip too had noticed it and was starting to smile at her.
“Your friend is staring”, he said.
“She scares me”, Lisa confessed. “For some weird reason I don’t know, she really scares me”.
“You shouldn’t get scared of her”, he advised. “She is a nice person if you get to know her”.
“I don’t want to know her”.
“Are you sure?” He giggled.
That wasn’t true. Lisa was dying to know more about Osas, about her late husband and why her tragedy somehow made her closer to God. It was in stark contrast of her life and how she got far away from religion after the death of her parents. Then she remembered Phillip still owed her.
“You haven’t still proven to me that ultimate truth is in the Bible”, she reminded him. “You have just been able to convince me about the existence of God. But Islam, Judaism and Christianity and you believe Christianity serves the true God. Why?”
“It all lies in very divisive person by the name Jesus”, Phillip replied with that smile stuck on his face. “First you must note that the existence of Jesus cannot be questioned. Historians and Theologians have delved into the study of Jesus and I want to assure you that 100 percent of these historians and theologians who have studied Jesus have come up with the conclusion that Jesus lived, whether Christian, Muslim, Jew or Atheist, they have all come out with the same conclusion. You see, the Jews do not believe that Jesus is the messiah, they do not believe he is the son of God. They do not believe he rose from the dead and they don’t believe he is coming back and again. The Muslims on the other hand believe Jesus is the Messiah but only in a sort of limited way. I don’t get them to be honest”, he giggled, “but they do not believe he is the son of God, they only believe he is a prophet of Islam and he shouldn’t be worshipped”. He paused for effect. “Now here is the fact. Christianity lies on the fact that Jesus came to earth, died and rose again on the third day and that he is God. If all these are false then Christianity is a baseless belief system and over 2.5 billion people in the world have been led astray.
“Let us talk about Judaism first. It should be noted that all three belief systems actually agree on the existence of Jesus and you will agree with me that they can’t all be wrong. But where the Jews got things wrong was that they believed the messiah to be a kind of political savior, a king who would reign over Israel forever. Jesus is that King but that will be done in His second coming. But they expected Jesus to drive away the romans which he actually did not come to do in his first coming. Truth was that Jesus didn’t fit what the Jews expected the messiah to be. In fact most of what Jesus did ran contrary to their view of the Messiah. This was because Jesus did things that were contrary to the religious laws and they felt if He was actually the messiah, he would obey laws that were set by God. So he healed on the Sabbath for example. The Jews also expected Jesus to behave more like them but he didn’t. In fact he condemned the religious leaders for their hypocrisy and told them that he would give them eternal life only if they believed in him. But if they don’t, they will die in their sin. That is absolutely not a way to win approval if you will agree with me”.
“So how come Christians believe He is the messiah?” Lisa inquired.
“Now, several old testament Prophesies actually refer to the Messiah as a triumphant King who will come and establish his kingdom. Jesus didn’t do that, but according to the Revelation of John, this will be done in his second coming. There are also hundreds of prophesies that stated that Jesus would save us from sin and that is what the first coming of Jesus was to accomplish. It would shock you to know that there are over 300 prophesies that Jesus fulfilled. The prophet Micah predicted that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Isaiah foretold His virgin birth. The prophet Zachariah predicted his entry into Jerusalem and his betrayal for 30 pieces of silver by one of his followers. David foretold in Psalm 22 the Messiah’s hands and feet would be pierced and soldiers would cast lots for His clothes. It should be noted that in the time of David, Crucifixion didn’t even exist. But many Jews expected this political Messiah that would free Israel from conflicts with other nations. During Jesus time, the Jews where dominated by the Romans and in the hope that Jesus had come to free them they set up palm trees on the floor as he rode into Jerusalem. Even His disciples asked if that was where he would establish His kingdom. But that was not what Jesus came to do. Jesus came to fulfill what the prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 53. Jesus came to pay for each person’s sins including the Jews but they weren’t looking for someone to pay for their sins, they were looking for someone to rule the nations and Jesus will in His second coming.”
Lisa nodded slowly. “But that doesn’t prove that He is the son of God”, She observed. “I read somewhere that the Gospels in the Bible where corrupted to fit the description of who the disciples wanted Jesus to be. I also read that Mark was the first Gospel written and it never stated anywhere that Jesus was the son of God”.
“Really?” Phillip laughed. “It is true that Mark was the first Gospel, but I will take you to Mark chapter 14 verse 62. Jesus claims to be the son of man, the ‘I am’ and sitting on the right hand side of power”, he replied. “Now going to the Old Testament, God revealed Himself as ‘I am’ to Moses, Daniel 7 described Him as the son of man and in Psalm 110 as sitting on the Right hand side of power”, he paused for effect. “So yes, According to Mark, Jesus referred to himself as son of God”.
“But he said ‘Son of man’, not son of God”, she argued.
“The answer to your confusion is in Daniel 7”, he replied. “Whenever Jesus refered to himself as ‘son of man’ he was referring to Daniel’s revelation in Daniel chapter 7 verse 13.  If you had a Bible would have told you to read it. But truth is that, in those days, the term ‘son of man’ was seen as divine. As opposed to ‘son of God’. The term son of God according to jews was nothing Divine, Adam was called the son of God, Solomon was called the son of God. But Daniel 7 refers to the son of man coming in a cloud of heaven, who’s going to receive Glory and sovereign power and people of every nation and language are going to worship Him with the worship due only to God, That Son of man is more than just a human. He is Divine.”
Did he have an answer to every question? Lisa wondered. But that was just Judaism out of the way, he had to prove Islam false and she was eager to hear him do it. But at that point, she had little doubts he couldn’t. Lisa had come across many debates with her mentor Chinwe Nnadi and religious people and every time she always felt the Muslims had the stronger case than the Christians. So she was willing to hear this brilliant pastor convince her. But at that point she knew she believed everything that came out of his mouth, but she wondered why she wasn’t convinced Christianity was the way to go.
“Now let us talk about Islam”, he continued. “Just as Christianity hinges on the death and resurrection of Jesus, Islam hinges on the credibility of a prophet Mohammed.  So, we are going to Judge the credibility of this Prophet. Now Islam is made to look simple and it is all about submission to Allah. Now where it gets complicated is that this submission to Allah means obeying the teachings of his prophet Mohammed. You should also note that Islam believe in the existence of Jesus as well, they believe him to be virgin born, a Christ but they do not believe he is God. According to Islam, Jesus was one of the greatest prophets of Allah and believe me, Jesus is well respected in the Muslim world judging from the fact that in the Quaran, he has even more chapters than Mohammed. This is where they go against Christianity. Now if Jesus actually died for our sins and rose from the dead, then Christianity is real. It proves that Jesus is actually the son of God. But Muhammad knew this and hence in the Quaran, Surah 4 verse 157, he clearly states that Jesus was not killed but it was made to appear that he was killed. You get where I am headed?” He asked as Lisa nodded intently. “The credibility of Christianity hinges on the death and resurrection of Jesus so in order for Islam to be credible, it has to deny the death of Jesus and that was exactly what Mohammed did. Now this raises a lot of questions regarding the credibility of this prophet. The first question is, who do I believe? There were followers of Jesus who witnessed the death and resurrection and went around spreading the gospel of Jesus. Now do I believe these followers or do I believe the testimony of a prophet who came 600 years after the death of Jesus?”
Lisa giggled without answering.
“Now many Muslim scholars believe that the followers of Jesus carried a false message about his death and resurrection.” He went on. “Now there are two options to that looking at it from the Islamic point of view. Either the Followers of Jesus knew He didn’t die and then decided to deliberately spread a false message, or they actually believed he died even if he didn’t. It is very unlikely that these followers deliberately lied because they carried this message to their bloody deaths. They were martyred, persecuted beyond human imagination but they kept preaching this gospel. Nobody will die for what he doesn’t believe in so this means they actually believed what they were preaching. So I ask again, would I believe the testimony of these followers or that of a prophet who came 600 years later?”
Lisa giggled again without answering. She had gone beyond impressed.
“The only explanation the Muslims can give is that maybe these followers were also made to believe that Jesus died when he really didn’t die”, he continued. “That leads to another question. Where did they get the idea that He resurrected? Muslims scholars will tell you in order to console the followers of Jesus, Allah made Jesus to appear to them in order to console them and show them that really, Jesus didn’t die. Now this is the biggest loophole in Islam. If Allah really made Jesus appear to the disciples in order to console them and prove to them that Jesus did not actually die, these disciples definitely got the wrong message. Because they went around preaching about death and resurrection of Jesus. Come to think of it, Allah actually aided Christianity, because that act of making Jesus appear to his followers passed the wrong message and gave birth to the biggest Belief system in the world today. This also questions the point of Jesus coming to earth. Why did he come? If he is a prophet of Islam, it means he came to preach Islam, but His closest followers went around spreading a false message after he was gone. Jesus couldn’t even pick the right followers because they spread the wrong message for crying out loud so you have to question the decision making of one of the greatest prophets of Islam. So in summary, Allah actually deceived the followers of Jesus and made them spread a false message and then waited for 600 years before deciding to correct his mistake and then sent Muhammad to give the right message. Does this make any sense to you?
“Now, let us look at the personality of Muhammad so we can judge his credibility. Early Muslim sources known as the hadiths have what is now widely referred to as the satanic verses. These verses revealed that Muhammad got a revelation that Muslims can pray to three goddesses. Al-Lat, al-uzza and Manat. Now he later comes back and refutes these revelations claiming that this revelation is from satan”.
“Is this in the Quaran?” Lisa wondered.
“The Quaran is not a history book of Muhammad. There are other credible Muslim sources that have these stories and this was gotten from one of them. Now can you trust the credibility of a prophet who cannot tell the difference between a revelation from God and a revelation from satan?” He smiled. “Muhammad gave a rule from God that Muslims can marry a maximum of four wives, but do you know how many wives he married?”
“Four?”
“Eleven”, Phillip laughed. “And they claim he did it for political reasons, to unite clans. But I think God can find a way to unite clans instead of instructing his prophet to break a rule he gave in the first place. And it will shock you to know that one of his wives was a wife to his adopted son. How can you trust the credibility of a man like that and claim he is a prophet of God?” He wondered. “Mohammad never performed any miracles, they claim his only miracle was the Quaran and that is a book filled with violent instructions, abuse towards women and children, glaring contradictions and rules which cannot be applied in today’s world and then Muslim scholars try to twist this rules so it can fit into today’s society.” He paused for effect. “God’s word is the same yesterday, today and forever, you don’t have to twist it to fit into changing times and that is the Bible. Jesus teachings and the teachings of His followers have kept on with the changing times and will continue to keep on. Finally, Lisa there is no faith on planet earth that can match the mountain of evidence that exists for Christianity. From the voluminous number of ancient manuscripts to the very early dating of the documents, some believed to have been written months after the death of Jesus and many of them eye witnesses. The multiplicity of accounts, the archeological evidence, none of which has ever contradicted a single claim the New Testament makes and to the fact the followers of Christ took the claim of His death and resurrection to their bloody deaths.” He smiled at trilled Monalisa. “You can’t dispute the fact that the word of God holds ultimate truth my dear and that word is in the Bible”.
Lisa took a deep breath and then nodded slowly. She was impressed! Very impressed and she had to admit she had never met a person like Phillip before. But there was one final question in her mind and that was the same question she had asked Agnes some days back. It was about the Omnipotence of God.
“Phillip”, she called, “have you ever heard of the omnipotence para…”
“Pastor Phillip we have a problem”, a deep coarse voice interrupted them and she knew exactly who it was. She has not seen Osas approaching and immediately her heart began to beat very fast. She asked herself again why she was scared of the secretary.
“What is it?” Phillip inquired of her.
“Food”, she replied. “A nearby fast food was supposed to supply us meals for the kids and now we haven’t even heard from them. I need to go check on them because some of these kids are hungry already. If anyone asks, that’s where I am and I would be back in a moment”.
“No problem”, Phillip replied as Osas turned to go. But he called her name as she walked to a distance. “Osas”, he called and she turned. “Lisa would like to go with you”.
“What?” A confused Lisa stared at Phillip with her mouth agape.
“Then hurry up”, Osas frowned referring to Lisa and she continued walking.
“What was that?” Lisa asked.
“Talk to her”, Phillip instructed her with that smile on his face. “You don’t have to be intimidated or scared of her”.
“I am not that scared of her”, Lisa argued.
“Then talk to her”, he cut in. “She’s a nice person”.
Lisa stood there feeling confused for a while and then looked towards the direction of the playing kids. “My son…”
“I will look after Daniel”, he assured her. “Trust me”.
Trusting Phillip with her son was something she never thought she could do and yet there she was, in the car with Osas Ojo, heading for a fast food. As Osas drove, she started to analyze her relationship with the Pastor and wondered why she had trusted him so much to leave her son in his care. She sat at the passenger’s seat and tried to steal glances at Osas who just focused her eyes on the road as gospel music played from her car stereo and she hummed along. They had gone on a while without saying a word to each other and then Lisa decided the silence was getting very weird.
“Why do you hate me?” She broke the silence.
“I don’t hate you”, Osas replied immediately like she was expecting the question. “I pity you”.
“Because I don’t have the same opinion about God as you have?”
“Opinion?” Osas scuffed. “One plus one is two. Only an ignorant person will have a different opinion about that. Same goes with God. It is not an opinion, it is a fact all must accept”.
“So you think I am Ignorant?”
“A fool in his heart says there is no God”, Osas cut in. “That passage is in Psalms and even David knew there were people like you”.
“Are you calling me a fool?” Lisa was boiling up.
“I am not”, Osas replied. “David is”.
Lisa was getting angry and she definitely didn’t like the smug ‘I am better than you’ attitude Osas was giving.
“Phillip told me what happened with your family”, Osas said.
“It’s Pastor Phillip”, Lisa corrected in retaliation to the correction Osas gave her the first time they met and for the very first time, Lisa saw Osas laugh. She had a beautiful laugh and Lisa only wished she would do that often.
“Pastor Phillip told me about your family”, Osas corrected herself.
“And he told me about your husband”, Lisa replied.
“I guess we have something in common” Osas observed. “I just wonder why your experience took you farther away from God”.
“You wonder?” Lisa asked in disbelief. “I should be the one wondering here. You have served God all your life and on your wedding day, the happiest day of your life you lose your husband to a terrible accident…”
“I lost more than my husband”, she cut in. “I used to lead the choir. I had a lovely singing voice but I can’t sing with this voice again, can I?” She smiled. “But instead of blaming God for what I lost, I have decided to thank him for what he gave me. He gave me my life, he gave me back the ability to speak”.
Lisa was marveled! Wasn’t this a slave mentally? In her mind she likened it to slaves who thanked their masters for keeping them alive despite making them go through the toughest of tortures. She just couldn’t understand it. “What did you see in that coma?” Lisa wondered.
“Coma?” Osas smiled. “Everyone says I was in a coma, no one knows what really happened”.
“What happened?’ Lisa stammered.
“I died Monalisa!”
Shock waves ran through Lisa’s body and for a while she just stared at Osas in total confusion. And then gradually she began to giggle and then it evolved to a very mocking laughter.
“I was expecting you to laugh”, Osas admitted. “You don’t have to believe me”.
“You died?” Lisa asked bewildered. “What did you see when you died?”
“Does it matter now?” Osas asked in a tone that showed her disappointment. “You are laughing. You wouldn’t believe anything I say.”
Lisa was silent. She had stopped laughing now.
“Even if God came down on earth and showed himself to everyone, humans will still have a way of spinning it or bringing up an irrational explanation that fits your human understanding”.
“My parents died”, Lisa recalled, “my brother’s died!” She was getting emotional all of a sudden. “Where was God?”
“God saved you!” Osas argued. “Just as He saved me. God created this world, He created our minds Monalisa. He created your parents and your brothers and can take them when he wants. How can a Creation understand the Creator when she pays no attention to that Creator?”
“I am not asking for much”, Lisa replied. “Just evidence He is up there”.
Osas scuffed. “Evidence?” She asked. “You know the problem with evidence? What is sufficient evidence for one person is not sufficient for another. You go to a court room and you see compelling evidence and two lawyers interpret it completely different.” She paused for effect. “Asking me to prove God’s existence is like asking me to prove the existence of civilization. You can point to a car and say that’s proof of civilization or an air plane but are those sufficient? Just like Civilization, the proof of God’s existence is in the experience. When you experience God you can see His handiwork all over your life. But this isn’t sufficient for you atheists because you believe that only what can be comprehended by the senses pass for evidence and that is where you all get it wrong. You all are looking for proof when it is all around you and all you need to see it is faith. There is absolutely nothing Pastor Phillip would tell you that can convince you Lisa, you can believe his theories but you can never be convinced deep down. the only thing that can convince you is when you experience Him personally and His spirit will do the convincing.
Lisa was silent for a while and then she asked. “How can I do that?”
“Faith”, she replied. “And you can only get that by hearing the word of God not the theology Pastor Phillip has been teaching you. I am not saying he is wrong for trying to convince you that way, but it is not for him to convince you, but the Holy Spirit. All you have to do is accept Christ into your life and watch all the evidence fall before your very eyes”.
They had just gotten to the fast food and Osas parked the car in front of it. They sat there for a while as Lisa was deep in thought. She was beginning to think this was no coincidence. If she wasn’t president, then she wouldn’t have been close to Phillip or Osas. But the ever faithful Mr Lucky Odefe had to steal from the company, hence she became president and got the Revelations Ministry’s contract. Maybe if God was real, that was His plan after all? No! She wasn’t thinking right. There was no God and all these people where just playing on her intelligence.
“Heaven”, she finally said. “A place of no pain, no suffering and then hell. A place of eternal suffering”. She took a deep breath. “If Heaven really exists, why is everyone even Christians afraid to die? Isn’t it because deep in our sub conscious we know there is no Heaven?”
Osas smiled. “What makes you think I am scared to die?” She asked.
“So if a gun was pointed at you…”
“Monalisa, the problem many Christians have is that they were born into a family of Christians”, she cut in. “I do ask people if they weren’t born into a family of Christians, will they be Christians now? Many people have not had time to investigate their faith. Deep down they still doubt but outside they act like they believe. Christians should investigate their faith in order to convince themselves that Jesus is their Lord. They need to experience Jesus personally. Jesus’ disciples took their gospel to their bloody deaths and even when they were tortured they were ready to die because they had seen and experienced Jesus personally. They were 100 percent sure of their faith. When you are that sure why would you fear death? When you know Christ has conquered death for you and you have eternal life?” She shook her head. “Christians who haven’t had a personal experience with Jesus fear death”.
“But all talk of Heaven and hell, it sounds like fantasy doesn’t it?”
“Look around you Lisa”, she replied. “This world is a fantasy. If you were told 1000 years ago that one day there would be things like cell phones or air planes, you will call that fantasy. Whatever the human mind can’t comprehend at the moment, they call it fantasy. That is why you need the Holy Spirit to comprehend the things of God. They are above human understanding”.
That night, as Lisa drove home with her son exhausted and sleeping on the passenger’s seat, she could not stop thinking of every word Osas said to her. She needed to speak to Judge Chinwe and tell her everything she had learnt about Christianity. Chinwe had to have a counter argument for everything she had heard. Maybe even arrange a debate between her and Phillip or Osas? Lisa was confused and disturbed at the same time. Why in the world did she meet these people?
As she drove into her compound, she saw someone sitting at the door step and she recognized him immediately. It was Victor. What was he doing there? It was past nine pm! She got down and carried her sleeping son out of the car.
“Where are you coming from?” Victor asked like an angry husband as she got down and she could tell he was drunk.
“Let’s go in”, she suggested as she opened her front door and they both walked in. She laid Daniel on the couch gradually as he slept peacefully. “What are you doing here Victor?” She wondered.
“You were with that pastor again, weren’t you?” He asked back and that was when she noticed he was visibly angry.
“I only took Daniel for a retreat the church had…”
“A church retreat?” He was raising his voice. “Since when did you start going for church retreats?”
She was silent.
“You are falling for that Pastor, aren’t you?” Victor spat.
“What? I am not!” She denied.
“I have loved you Lisa”, he said and she suddenly felt sad for him. “I loved you and Ehimen took you away! I will not let that pastor do the same”.
“I don’t feel anything for Phillip”.
“Then why don’t you love me?” He asked like he was about to cry. “I have been with you since you were 15, through thick and thin. I have been with you why can’t you see that?”
“Because I don’t feel the same way Victor”, she replied. “And there are lots of complications now. I am your boss. Your president”
Victor chuckled mockingly. “My president”, he whispered to himself. “You are my boss?” he started screaming. He was really drunk, she started to hope he was able to control himself. “My president?” He screamed again. “You really don’t realize everything I have done for you?”
“You have done a lot for me and I am greatful Victor…”
“You are president because of me!” He spat.
At first, those words just passed through her and then suddenly she caught them. “What?” She asked as she moved closer to him. He realized he had slipped and suddenly got calm. “What did you say?” She asked to be sure.
“Nothing”, he lied.
“Victor?” She called. “You said I am president because of you. What do you mean…” And then it hit her! “You set Mr Lucky up!”
“I…I…did it because I love you”, he stammered.
“Are you crazy?” She was the one screaming now not minding her son was asleep. Her heart had started to beat so fast and her head got light like she was about to pass out. “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God”, she whispered to herself as she sat down on the closest chair as her legs got too weak to stand with both hands on her head.
“Lisa, does that matter?” Victor wondered as he walked towards her. “I don’t care about Mr Lucky, we are the only ones that matter in this world. You and me”.
“Do you know what he is going through?” She was back to screaming. “Do you have an idea what his family is going through? I thought I was president on merit, Victor! How could you do this? How could you?”
“You will wake Daniel up”.
“Shut up Victor!” She was having none of it. “This is not how we are. This is how religious people behave not us!”
“I knew you wanted to be President so bad”, he tried to justify himself. “I did it for you”.
“Victor”, she called. “You know what the queen will do if she finds out?” She asked, this time in a calmer voice. She was trying to be calm because all she really wanted to do was slap Victor in the head till he passed out.
“You are not going to tell her are you?” He asked with wide eyes.
She simply got up, walked to her dining table shelf, filled a glass with water and drank it. She turned to her best friend who suddenly looked pitiful staring at her. “I will be in the office by 8:30 am tomorrow.” She said with all the calm she could muster. “When I get to the office, I expect to see your resignation letter on my desk”.
“What?”
“And run away Victor”, she continued. “Run away as far as you can because Dr Beatrice will hunt you with everything in her”. She dropped the glass. “See yourself out of my house, I need to sleep”.
