So CORE blog sat with one of those ladies you just love to look at her face. SUZZY is not just very pretty (nominating her as next shachah yadah model 😂😂), she's also a talker (apparently, she doesn't know the chat is typed by a human being). But she's good. She's really, really good. At a point she even started interviewing CORE BLOG (nominating her as a CORE BLOG writer... And part of the next year one committee... and next moderator in church...and next General coordinator and next assistant chaplain... Ok am getting too excited) anyway, Enjoy!
NAME: Erugo Suzzy Kelechi
DEPARTMENT : physiology
STATE OF ORIGIN : Abia state
L. G. A: umuahia local government.
CORE BLOG: Good morning Suzzy and welcome to CORE BLOG.
SUZZY: thank you.
CORE BLOG: as usual we begin with simple things. How many are you in your family?
SUZZY: we are five kids... (then her head snaps) sorry we are six (laughs)
CB: Did you just forget how many you are in your family? You are five or six? Which one do we stick with?
SUZZY: (laughs again.) six.
CB: so what position are you in the family?
SUZZY: third.
CB: how many girls and how many guys?
SUZZY: we are all girls (OK. I think I really want to be their neighbor.)
CB: are you serious? How does it feel to not have a brother?
SUZZY : I didn't really have that feeling of not having a brother because a cousin of mine stayed with us and he's a brother to me. He's my brother! For me, he filled that vacuum perfectly. Growing up, I always loved hanging out with guys. I can recall when my mum was pregnant for my younger sister, and everyone was like, it has to be a boy this time around. So the morning she gave birth, I wasnt with her when she was in labour, I stayed back in the house. So when my uncle came back, I asked, what's the sex and he said a girl and I was like 'again'? But it's all good. Sometimes my dad, I feel for him. Many times we are with our mum and we are chatting and he'll just be one side. And we are just like 'two of you go and talk with daddy'. (laughs). But it's really nice. And like I said, my cousin stayed with us so I have a brother.
CB: So where do you reside?
SUZZY : I stay in Lagos. (CORE BLOG is currently on it's way to Lagos)
CB: what part of Lagos?
SUZZY: shomolu.
CB: so I can visit you someday?
SUZZY: of course. My parents are really cool. You can come to the house.
CB: so how many languages can you speak?
SUZZY: like fluently? If it's languages I understand, then English, igbo and yoruba.
CB: so those are the ones you understand? So which ones can you speak fluently?
SUZZY : (laughs) English.
CB: just English?
SUZZY: OK, I am not too good with languages but I'm a little good with igbo and yoruba. But when you talk about being very fluent, it's just English. I promised myself to be truthful during this chat.
SUZZY : (thinks for a while). I like to talk to people. (see? CORE BLOG material.) it's just that there is a problem. I am very shy. I love to do a lot of things but because of the fact that I am shy, I really end up not being able to do those things. (this is the point I nominate her for the secretariat wing). I believe I can talk to people, I believe I can be very social, and I can be very dramatic (OK, I nominate her for the drama wing). But I am shy 😞.
CB: you have a lovely accent. Where did you get it? Can we attribute that to your secondary school or did it just fall from heaven? Where did you learn to speak like this?
SUZZY: Environment is a major factor. But I think people's accent are as a result of their upbringing. Many times it's not really upbringing, it's just who you feel you want to be.
CB: so what's your date of birth?
SUZZY: OK, I won't give you my year. Although I said I won't be secretive but you know naaaaa (I don't know nothing. What's with everyone hiding their age sef?). So I was born 5th of December. But I will say I was born in the 90's.
CB: so maybe we will go to your facebook page...
SUZZY : you won't see the year there. Sorry.
CB: So which wing can you serve here In CORE?
SUZZY : other wings are OK, but the one that catches my attention is the choir. (nominated her for a thousand wings and yet she prefers the only one we didn't even mention).
CB: so how was your life before FUNAI?
SUZZY: my life before FUNAI was fun. It's still fun but those days I could just sleep without this burden on my head. I was very light then. I loved watching movies, I loved going out, it was fun. I remember the day we wrote the exam, someone said the irony of schooling is that as people are in a haste to go into school, people are also in a haste to get out. But you can't stay at home. Being at home is bad. But it was really fun being at home.
SUZZY : twice. I wrote the first one but the second one was when I got into FUNAI. The first one I wrote was was for UNN.
CB: what course?
SUZZY : medicine and surgery. The second time was for FUNAI and that was physiology.
CB: so who told you about FUNAI?
SUZZY : An uncle. He's wife recides here In abakaliki, so he was like, SUZZY why don't you try FUNAI and I was like...let me be very truthful. I asked where funai was and he said ebonyi state. To me, I felt ebonyi was underdeveloped (I hope she doesn't get summoned by association of ebonyi students 😂😂). I was asking my uncle, what does he expect me to do in a bush? (another hit 😂😂😂) and he was like just try. I thought about it because I didn't want to stay at home again. You know the problem of staying at home, parents wahala and all your mates being in school. So I just decided to put FUNAI. I googled the school and saw things that were coming up and since it's a federal university, I was like OK.
CB: OK. I also applied for UNN. Sat for JAMB four times... (OK. No one wants to know about you. We only care about SUZZY for today) but didn't get admission.
SUZZY : four times? Wow.
CB: I was going in for medicine also...
SUZZY : are you serious? Now you are in statistics. Medicine and statistics? They don't have any link.
SUZZY : but wait. I want to ask you this question. (this was the point the interviewee became the interviewer.) the four times you wrote jamb, you applied for UNN and it's been medicine and surgery. Wasn't there any related course you could have applied for here? Why statistics?
CB: I was always good at biology and physics in secondary school. Told myself if I can't get into the medical field, I will do something engineering related. I was also very good with computers that was why I applied for computer science. But instead I got statistics. And since there are similarities, I stuck to it. (and there was an awkward silence because for a while CB forgot he was the interviewer). Ok! Where do you see yourself in seven years?
SUZZY : in four years I will have my BSc. in physiology. Like I said, I initially applied for medicine in UNN, but I believe that if I still have that striking passion or urge to go into medicine, maybe I will. But if the urge is not there, fine. I will stick with my physiology, I can go into any field in physiology... That's just it because physiology is so broad. There are so many things you can do with physiology. I can even have my own fitness gym or something like that.
SUZZY : I think I love mass communication a lot. And like I said I love interacting with people. If I come out and there's no vibe in physiology, definitely I will go into mass communication. I love broadcasting, I love Radio presenting, TV presentation, I love entertainment and all that. Besides in Nigeria, I have seen someone who studied engineering, working with the customer service. Very soon you will see doctors working at the bank. So I can actually do something with my life and i think that thing is mass communication.
CB: So how do you feel when you are embarrassed in public?
SUZZY : Goose bumps!!! Recently, I got embarrassed here in FUNAI. Like I said, I am a very shy person. I am a Nifesian. I also attend NIFES. So there was this evening, we were in fellowship and I didnt expect it. We were rounding up a program and so that was like the grand finale of the program, so the anchor of the program picked me to sing. I love singing but I love doing it in my bathroom. And there's this particular song I love very well, it's a very common song. Give thanks by Don meon. But that day, I stood in front of the congregation and I couldnt look them in the eyes. Do you know I missed the lyrics? I felt so embarrassed that day. It was like the ground should open let me just enter. And the next Sunday, a guy wanted to give a special presentation and he sang the same song! God! It was so embarrassing.
SUZZY: there are people I look up to. Even here, when I look at the lives of people like Favour Anosike, like Papa John Okwute, and so many people. Even you too. You are my mentor (and he blushes). Outside here, I will say my parents. When I look at my mum, I get inspired. It's not easy taking care of six girls.
CB: I am honoured. So how many kids would you love to have?
SUZZY: maximum of four. Maybe two boys and two girls. If I have three children, maybe two boys and a girl.
SUZZY: it was wonderful. From the choir ministration to the message. The Sunday school was wonderful. There are some passages I knew that the person God used in the Sunday school really opened my eyes to. The drama ministration, everything was OK. It's a regular thing for you to come to CORE and it's not a normal service. Something must be extraordinary.
CB: to small talks Now. What's your favorite colour?
SUZZY : I don't really have one. But I love blue. I love the Jamaican colors, green, yellow and red.
CB: favourite food?
SUZZY: spaghetti. Ogbono soup also. I can eat it morning, afternoon and night. I won't get tired.
SUZZY : me too. I don't like egusi too.
CB: (gets rather too excited) can you imagine? Maybe you are my distant cousin that got lost?
SUZZY: somebody actually asked me if you were my brother and I said no.
CB: you can imagine the resemblance. So what's your next agenda for today?
SUZZY : take a nap then do some academic work, then later head for NIFES fellowship. So that's it.
CB: do u have a jotter where you plan your day?
SUZZY: I don't. But when i wake up in the morning, I ask myself, 'SUZZY what will you do and how will you do it?'. So I kinda plan my day in my head.
CB: do you have a devotional?
SUZZY: yes. I use rhapsody of realities. A room mate of mine attends Christ embassy so every month she distributes it to us.
CB: final question, what's your CORE story?
SUZZY: I came to FUNAI on a monday, I attend TREM in Lagos and when I checked, there was not TREM campus fellowship here, so I had the intention of joining one of these very popular churches I knew will definitely have a fellowship here. So when I got to the room I was asking if there was any TREM campus fellowship here and my roommate said no. But she was like you don't need to search for any fellowship, just come to CORE. I said OK and I joined them. And it was really wonderful. The way I was welcomed, it was like a family. I loved the reception I got. And that day the choir ministration was so nice (KR never dissapoints my dear). I told myself, I had to come back.
CB: so what if TREM starts a fellowship tomorrow?
SUZZY : even if my church is found here, I will still be in CORE. I like to be sincere. It's one God and I love the reception here already. TREM has a branch in abakaliki so I can still visit once in a while to keep myself up to date of what's happening in the church, but truth is, I am stuck with CORE.
CB: Says she's stuck with CORE. I am stuck with CORE too. My home church is here actually but still I am a CORITE. ( like we wanted to know about you 😟 ) thank you for chatting with us Suzzy we had a lovely time with you.
SUZZY: thank you.
Odds and ends
1. Time of interview : a normal CORE BLOG interview takes around 10 to 12 minutes. But this one took a whooping 26 minutes and 28 seconds. Suzzy is a talker and a very interesting one. Who would have thought that quiet, reserved looking lady we see every Sunday could be this fun? In CORE BLOG, we pledge to fish them out.
2. Date of birth: what's with people hiding their year? I really don't know why people do it but there has to be a reason. CORE BLOG was born 18th December 2014. See? Didn't hide mine. Shout out to Vivienne. The only lady who called her year of birth.
3. Resemblance :
4. Interview format: nothing on fashion? Someone somewhere is boiling!
5. The awesomeness of suzzy: there are lots of exciting and awesome people in CORE (check out all our interviews) and Suzzy is just one of them. It's amazing how many wings she can fit into. CORE is a home of building people and we are sure when she joins any wing, we have a real asset in our hands. We also know we can help her build herself in the things she loves doing and kill that shyness. All in all, SUZZY is incredible and we are glad you are part of our family.
