Sassy, Intelligent and dimple faced Favour! CORE BLOG had the privilege to sit and chat with this outspoken lady. we got to know her better, her dreams and aspirations in life and also some little things you might have been wondering about her. So let us get down to it shall we?
CORE BLOG: Good afternoon and welcome to CORE blog.
TECHNA: Good afternoon.
CORE BLOG: may we know you please?
TECHNA: my name is Enwerem Favour.
CB: Your department?
TECHNA: Department of accountancy.
CB: date of birth?
TECHNA: 23rd december.
CB: CORE BLOG loves to start from simple, playful questions. the first question we will love to ask you is, how many are you in your family?
TECHNA: we are four. we are all girls.
CB: four girls?
TECHNA: yes, which we are proud of.
CB: hmm. so what was growing up in a house of four girls look like?
TECHNA: growing up was fun. we shared things, since we are all girls. and we got to gist. a lot.
CB: gist about what exactly?
TECHNA: gist about everyday activities, gist about school because we all went to different burden schools so whenever we came home, we would exchange gist and different experiences.
CB: OK. so how many languages can you speak?
TECHNA: If pidgin is inclusive, I can speak three. English, Igbo and Pidgin (laughs).
CB: so what skill have you acquired over time? Here in CORE we encourage skill acquisition to empower ourselves.
TECHNA: I have a skill in the making which is fashion designing. I am still learning how to sew and by God's grace, by the end of this long vacation, I should be a better seamstress.
CB: wow. are you serious? when did you start this?
TECHNA: I started after my WAEC. when i was waiting for my admission, i didn't get into school immediately, so I had to use that year to acquire this skill.
CB: so is that the only skill you have at the moment?
TECHNA: yes. I believe if I cab focus on one, I will be able to learn others with time. but I need to perfect this one first instead of being a Jack of all trade and master of none. (Norah will love you!!!)
CB: You think you have any inbuilt talent? Things that you love to do?
TECHNA: I don't think I have any inbuilt talent, except the talent of looking for trouble. (laughs).
CB: Looking for trouble? is that a talent? so you want to tell CORE BLOG that you weren't born with any talent?
TECHNA: lets just say I have not discovered it. I love sewing but can you classify that under talent? I don't really consider that as a talent.
CB: Don't worry CORE BLOG is praying you discover your talent.
TECHNA: Amen! (laughs)
CB: So where do you see yourself in 10 years favour?
TECHNA: I see myself as the co-owner of CEO of a very huge empire, because I wouldn't want to just call it a company. A fashion designing and modelling establishment for women. With the dream I have, I will do the clothing line, my sisters will focus on shoes and hair, so everything is all planned out and we are going to have a great a future.
CB: That is a really big dream!
TECHNA: Excuse me, if your dream does not scare you, then you haven't started dreaming.
CB: Preach preacher!
TECHNA: so I have a great dream!
CB: so you mentioned your sisters being in charge of the hair and the shoes. so are they into these things?
TECHNA: exactly! speaking of the hair dressing section, my elder sister is a guru in hair dressing. actually she has passed it down to us too because I am now into hair dressing and my younger sister can also help. she isn't very good yet, but she can help. my immediate younger sister is good at designing and she loves shoes. if I will use her language, she hearts shoes. so that is where she will specialize in.
CB: So let us talk about CORE a bit. what is the most fascinating thing to ever happen to you in this great house?
TECHNA: honestly, I am a very difficult to fascinate. So I haven't really found anything fascinating.
CB: so why do you keep coming?
TECHNA: I keep coming because I am attracted to this place. I have had several invitations to other churches but CORE keeps drawing. I have had several invitations but each Sunday I am like, who knows what I am going to miss today? and if I come that Sunday, I actually would have missed something if I didn't come.
CB: This actually means there is something...
TECHNA: there is something here fascinating but I haven't pinpointed that fascinating thing that keeps drawing me here.
CB: Ok! down to our quiz question. Do you know our chaplain's name? full name with titles please.
TECHNA: (thinks for a while). Evangelist Barrister Nnamdi Joseph Okezie.
CB: (gives Techna a high five). Alright, what of your general coordinator's full name?
TECHNA: Ogbu Uche (what???????)
CB: Really? (laughs). Ogbu Uche? Are you serious?
TECHNA: Agbo Uche sorry!!! They sound really alike. I tend to confuse the two names. so sorry. Agbo Uche is our general coordinator.
CB: Agbo Uche is not his full name anyway. it Agbo, Uchechukwu Samuel.TECHNA: His name is Samuel? I didn't know that because he doesn't actually use it,
CB: Ya, he doesn't. (Which is a shame because Samuel is a very lovely name!) So, how was life before FUNAI?
TECHNA: life before FUNAI was fun from the moment I left secondary school. It wasn't all fun though, because you know when you are waiting for admission and you don't get it, you won't actually find staying at home funny, no matter how much fun you catch. But life in secondary school was really nice.
CB: so whats is your most embarrassing moment ever?
TECHNA: I can't recall any embarrassing moment. I have had quite a few, but i tend to delete unpleasant things from my memory.
CB: so how often do you read your Bible?
TECHNA: It depends. like the book I use as my daily devotional, the bible verses are in it. so i don't need to lift the hard copy Bible to read. I just read from that book. So when I do that, I have actually read my Bible for the day.
CB: so you read your Bible everyday?
TECHNA: sometimes I miss it. I am a human being (laughs).
CB: so tell us Favour, what is your opinion about dating on campus?
TECHNA: Choice. That's all I'll say.
CB: so what advice will you give those in a relationship on campus?
TECHNA: Whatever you do remember your primary assignment. you came to school for three reasons. let us just classify them into three. of course you know that God is at the top. Primary assignment is to study. secondary assignment is to flex, that's to have fun. the tertiary assignment, if you so desire is your relationship. so anything you are doing, know that it is school first before any other human being because if you fail because of that person, you will authomatically hate that person, so what is the need?
CB: OK. let us come back to CORE a bit. what has CORE changed in your life since you became a member?
TECHNA: I have started taking the things of God seriously. before I came here, I was not so into the church issue, like at home, \i don't even try to smile in the church or anything. I see church as a punishment kind off. But since I came here, I try as much as possible to come in time, make sure I am involved in one or two things, and it is actually nice participating. And I love the aspect of participation. That is one major thing that keeps me here.
CB: Participation is keeping you here?
TECHNA: CORE allows everyone get involved. I don't like the idea of some churches here on campus. for instance A is good in singing so everyday A sings. In CORE it is different. They want to give people a chance. But else where, they say A is good so today we use A and tomorrow we use A and on and on and somewhere in the dark, B is practicing and waiting for the day they will call him or her out to do something, but no! It has to be A because A knows how to do it. Then they leave B dormant and after everything, B will just relegate to the dark. so I came to CORE because I was tired of being B.
CB: so we hope in CORE, you are A now?
TECHNA: I don't actually want to be the capital A. I am contented being the small A.
CB: So do you have a nickname Favour?
TECHNA: yes. Techna.
CB: so how did you get it?
TECHNA: I got it from a cartoon i watched. I am a cartoon freak. or let me say, I was a cartoon freak, because nowadays FUNAI does not give me enough time to be a cartoon freak. so I got the name from a fairy cartoon, titled WINGS CLUB. The girls name is Techna, the fairy of Technology. so i git Techna from there.
CB: so you are actually the name sake to a cartoon character?
TECHNA: yes. she's a cartoon character but an awesome one. I love the idea behind her name.
CB: so are you in any wing in CORE?
TECHNA: yes. I am in the drama wing.
CB: so how active are you?
TECHNA: to my own capacity.
CB: is there any other wing you would love to join?
TECHNA: I wanted to join the choir when I came, but due to circumstances beyond my control like my Saturday maths tutorials tend to clash with the rehearsal time. so I just decided to be content with one wing.
CB: so is there anything you don't like about CORE?
TECHNA: at the moment, No.
CB: so talking about academics. are you currently having any academic challenges?
TECHNA: I do not think there is a student without academic challenges. even if Life was a bed of roses, Roses still have thorns. So yes, I have challenges which I am working on now and I believe God that they are going to be stepping stones to view my horizon.
CB: Finally! What is your CORE story?
TECHNA: I already told you what keeps me here. But how I found CORE was that I was invited to the picnic. But before that, the very first day I came to this school for my registration, I went to photocopy my hostel form at the back gate (Hostel has a form???) and then Sammy passed with Norah. Norah invited me with the CORE flier, she was with Uche Ogbu too (not Agbo). So she asked my department, I told her ACC and she was like, oh my God, ACC? This Uche, she's one of the best in ACC, she can always help you out and all that stuff. That was the first day I came in contact with anything CORE. so first of all, I identified myself with my home church, then I was invited for the picnic, I loved the way we were treated at the picnic, it was really nice. then after the picnic, not trying to praise myself but everyone loved me. like Favour, Favour this, Favour that, I was feeling fly! so I was invited to the service and I was like, let me just take this opportunity and visit these people that actually made my day in that picnic. and so I came and I was bestowed with a position in the year One excos. And that was how I got to stay, because I cannot have their post and carry it back to another church.
CB: so we trapped you?
TECHNA: Yes. And I am happy you did.
CB: Thank you very much Techna. We had so much fun during this chat.
TECHNA: And thank you for having me.
Odds and Ends.
1. Girls: so Techna is the third girl being interviewed from a family of all girls. In her family, they have four girls, then we have our graduate Ada in a family of five girls and then Suzzie in a family of six girls! Wow! from this little statistic, CORE blog can conclude that girls are gradually taking over the world.
2. Dreams, dreams and dreams: According to Techna, CORE's fairy of technology, your dream has to scare you and CORE BLOG fully agrees. Techna and her sisters want to own a powerful fashion house and we really hope they work towards making that a reality. CORE blog has also noticed the growing trend of fashion designers in CORE. this is a good thing, because we believe if Christians take over the fashion world then people will stop walking around with torn clothes because it is "trending". So Techna, Norah and all our fashion designers, CORE blog is urging you all to chase this dream with open arms. And we at CORE BLOG can help by having a weekly fashion feature here, but that is still pending as our new boss, Gospel Peace needs to approve that first.
3. Relationship matters: There has been a growing trend with people we have had chats with. CORE blog has noticed they all don't believe in dating on campus...except Techna. This lady is the first to have a different view on dating on campus. "Choice", she says, "but never put it above your primary assignment". Thumbs up dear.
4. The point of Education: CORE BLOG couldn't help but notice something very funny during the course of this chat. Techna is a student of Accountancy but has nothing regarding her course in her future plan. What does she want to do instead? Fashion! So one wonders, what's the point of spending four years learning how to draw tables in ACC classes? CORE BLOG loves to do a little research and one thing we have noticed is that despite Techna's unwillingness to practice her course, she is still doing very well in it. This is a huge lesson to everyone especially corites. Never, ever neglect your Education because you feel you do not need it or you are good at something else. One day, it will come in handy and I am very sure Techna knows this.
5. The Uche Dilemma: let us clear this up.
Above is Uche Agbo, the General coordinator of Chapel of Restoration.
Then we have Uche Ogbu, the assignment welfare coordinator. See the difference?
6. Finally, CORE BLOG can't fail to commend the year one committee. Techna is another product of the awesome committee and we are so lucky to have someone so committed and talented (even though she thinks she doesn't have one, we know she does).
